Why Trinity?

We offer this presentation on Trinity in the life of SSND as a way to prepare for the Symposium on the Triune God in July 2021. In response to questions from our Sisters, the Trinity Symposium Committee asked: What led the General Chapter delegates, on behalf of all our Sisters, to accept the following commitment?

We deepen our consciousness of who we are in relationship with the Triune God, one another and God’s amazing universe, particularly through theological reflection on the Trinity.
~Love Gives Everything

The presentation is about 45 minutes long. If you need a break, you may want to pause before each section. After the introduction, there are four sections clearly marked: Spiritual Heritage, You Are Sent, Directional Statements 1987 to 2017 and 24th General Chapter.

As you watch the presentation, let the Holy Spirit guide you. Do not worry about ‘catching it all’ or remembering it. Just take it in!

Keep in mind the following reflection questions as a way of going deeper in your own exploration and understanding of Trinity. We encourage you to share your responses to these questions, and other insights on the Triune God, during times of faith sharing as well as in small group conversations.

  • Upon listening to this graced history of ours, what thoughts and feelings arise?
  • What touches your inner being? What generates desire? Complete the sentence: I wish…
  • What do you notice about Trinity in our history? What does that mean for you?
  • While listening, do you notice any “aha” moments… what was it that resonated within you?
  • How do you see the grace of God revealing the Trinity to SSND through Blessed Theresa and our SSND gatherings of discernment? How would you express this movement of God in our living history?
  • What prayer would you offer to our Triune God?
