Foundation Day

The School Sisters of Notre Dame were founded by Blessed Theresa of Jesus Gerhardinger in Bavaria on October 24, 1833. Every year on October 24, the congregation celebrates Foundation Day.

Blessed Theresa envisioned a community responding to the urgent needs of the times. She looked outside the confines of a residence, a town, a country and even a continent; her vision was like an open window.

For Foundation Day 2020, Sisters in the Atlantic-Midwest Province, the Central Pacific Province and the Province of Africa were invited to take a photograph of the “View From My Window,” a popular activity while confined during this pandemic year. Watch a slideshow of the photographs HERE.

The SSND “View From My Window” project reflects the internationality and interconnectedness of today’s SSND, in celebration of 187 years as a congregation. Happy Foundation Day!
