On October 24, the congregation of the School Sisters of Notre Dame (SSND) celebrates its Foundation Day. It was on that day in 1833 that Blessed Theresa of Jesus Gerhardinger founded the congregation in Bavaria. Now, 190 years later, we celebrate SSND’s sponsored and affiliated ministries, as well as the thousands of individual sisters who continue to live out the SSND mission every day with their ministries, their presence, and their prayers. We also honor the SSND associates and lay colleagues who work side-by-side with sisters, supporting and extending their efforts. One hundred ninety years after the founding of the School Sisters of Notre Dame, the congregation of women that Mother Theresa began continues her mission to respond to a world in need.
