We are happy to be a part of the fourth annual Meet Our Sisters Tour during National Vocation Awareness Week (NVAW) November 6-12, 2022. The “tour” highlights the life, mission and ministries of Catholic sisters living and serving throughout Illinois. Learn more here.

School Sisters of Notre Dame (SSND) were founded in 1833 in Bavaria by Blessed Theresa of Jesus Gerhardinger. Our mission is to proclaim the good news as SSND, directing our entire lives toward that oneness for which Jesus Christ was sent. Today we are an international congregation of women religious with nearly 2,000 sisters serving in 30 countries. Learn more at Gerhardinger.org.

SSND arrived in America in 1847 and have ministered in Illinois since 1859. There are approximately 50 sisters still serving throughout the state, in dioceses, parishes, schools, hospitals and nonprofit agencies. They are spiritual directors, teachers, tutors, pastoral associates, administrators, in ministry with refugee families and more. Meet some of them here:
