Featured Speaker:

Susan Block, family lawyer, retired Circuit Judge, founder of Caring for Kids, Inc.

“Creating a Healthy Environment for Today’s Children”

Susan Block retired in 2004 after serving as a Circuit Judge for 25 years. Judge Block returned to the practice of law, as a lawyer with Paule Camazine & Blumenthal, directly after retiring. In her last judicial assignment, she was appointed to serve as the Administrative Judge of the Family Court. While in this position she maintained a full caseload of abuse, neglect, delinquency and adoption cases. Recipient of the Andrew Jackson Higgins Award for Excellence in Juvenile Justice, Judge Block’s work in the area of family law and child advocacy has been recognized locally and internationally.

Judge Block was a founding member of the Washington University Project for Children and Youth. Judge Block also served on the first Board of Directors for the National Truancy Prevention Association and Lawyers for Equality. In 2003, Judge Block founded Caring for Kids, Inc., which provides essential resources to meet the urgent needs of children who were abused, neglected or at-risk in St. Louis County. Judge Block was appointed by the Missouri Supreme Court to its Committee on Racial and Ethnic Fairness, a juvenile sub-committee, with a special focus on referrals to the court, in particular, alternatives to detention and commitments to the Department of Youth Services.
