Blessing of Pets on the Feast of St. Francis

The feast day of St. Francis of Assisi is celebrated on October 4. St. Francis is the patron saint of animals and ecology because of his love for all creatures.

For this feast day, we share with you a prayer resource for “Blessing of Pets,” created by Sister Gen Cassani.

O God, in your creativity
and gracious love all living beings
flourish and grow,
fish in the sea, birds in the air
and animals on the land.
Help us to be like St. Francis
seeing all beings as brothers and sisters.

(name pet)
We bless you dear companion.
For the love and joy we share,
we thank you.
For the bond that unites us and
for opening our eyes to see the
larger circle of life all around us
we are grateful.
Through you (name pet)
we are drawn into the amazing
common relationship we share with
our Divine Creator God. Amen.
