Shalom is the term we use to describe our SSND international network for justice, peace, and integrity of creation. Shalom is the Hebrew word for peace and implies restoring all things to their right order or original integrity. More than 2,500 sisters, associates, and friends of SSND across five continents make up the Shalom Network.
Through Shalom we take actions that lead to:
- reconciliation,
- solidarity with the oppressed,
- the promotion of human dignity, and
- collaboration with ecological movements to safeguard Earth.
The School Sisters of Notre Dame also work on making a difference at the United Nations through our involvement as a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) and participating in the United Nations meetings and activities, such as the U.N. Commission on the Status of Women.

Visit the SSND Virtual Prayer Room for Peace, an initiative of SSND North America that invites sisters, associates, and friends of SSND to enter a peaceful space to unite for the needs of the world. The Prayer Room for Peace is open each Friday from 10am-10pm Eastern. We invite you to enter the room during that time, both for your own restoration and for the power of our united prayer.
