From May 21 to 28, we celebrate Laudato Si’ Week 2023! This year’s guiding theme is “Hope for the Earth. Hope for humanity.”
What is Laudato Si’ Week?
Laudato Si’ Week began as a way to celebrate the first anniversary of Pope Francis’ papal encyclical letter, “Laudato Si’: On Care For Our Common Home.” Since then, the annual celebration has become a way for all Catholics to unite and rejoice in the progress we’ve made in bringing Laudato Si’ to life and to commit ourselves to further prayer and action for our common home.
SSND has joined Catholics worldwide in making a congregational commitment “to educate, advocate, and act in collaboration with others for the dignity of life and the care of all creation.” (SSND Laudato Si’ public commitment in May 2021)
How can you celebrate Laudato Si’ Week?
This year, we encourage you to watch the film “The Letter.” The movie (free to watch on YouTube) follows the journey of a group of people affected first-hand by the climate crisis who travel to Rome to meet Pope Francis.* Use the resource guide for reflection and discussion questions for your movie viewing, as well as prayer and website resources.

* “The Letter” contains subtitles. Subtitles are available in English, Italian, Spanish, French and Portuguese. We recommend watching the film on as big a screen as possible to make the captions easy to read.
