For 52 weeks a year, School Sisters of Notre Dame and all women religious give public witness to Christ through a diversity of ministerial works such as teaching, pastoral care, health care, retreat and spirituality programs, and a multitude of other outreach efforts. They often work on the frontlines of global change, striving to improve various aspects of society, especially for those on the margins.
But for one week each year, March 8-14, we shine the spotlight on women religious to raise awareness of mission and all the ways Jesus’ goodness is embodied through the lives of Catholic Sisters.
Who are School Sisters of Notre Dame?
SSND is international congregation of almost 2,000 women religious. Our life in mission integrates prayer, community life and ministry. Founded in 1833 by Blessed Theresa of Jesus Gerhardinger in Bavaria, SSND now live and minister in 30 countries spanning five continents. Following our foundress’ example, we exclude no one from our concern. We are particularly sensitive to the needs of children, youth and women, often the weakest in society. We give priority to persons who are poor. We strive to be sensitive and attentive to the ever-changing conditions in our rapidly changing reality. We try to discover where we are called and which of the world’s needs we are called to address.
