The Atlantic-Midwest Province of the School Sisters of Notre Dame consists of 587 sisters who minister in nearly 40 dioceses across the United States and in Canada and England. We also serve in Italy, Switzerland and South Sudan. While our mission is rooted in SSND's foundation in 1833 of creating schools to educate young people, today we know that the world can be transformed through education in the broadest sense. SSNDs educate in schools, in the community, in health care settings, in the poorest areas of cities and countryside, in job centers, in prisons, in recovery houses and in day care centers.
