The School Sisters of Notre Dame celebrated their 2nd Chicago Area Multi-School Reunion on Saturday, May 21, 2016, at The Estate by Gene & Georgetti in Rosemont, Illinois.
The special guest speaker was Tony Durpetti, a 1963 graduate of St. Michael’s Central High School. Tony discussed his memories of both St. Michael’s and his friendship with Dennis Farina, also a graduate of St. Michael’s, Class of ’62. Tony is the recipient of the Joseph Cardinal Bernardin Humanitarian Award. The joint civic committee of Italian Americans also have recognized him as their humanitarian of the year. A dedicated philanthropist, Tony and his wife, Marion, support numerous charities, including Common Threads, Hephzibah Children’s House, Cystic Fibrosis, and The Chicago Hunter Derby. Tony is the proprietor of both Gene & Georgetti Chicago and Rosemont, as well as The Estate.
Special events like the reunion in Chicago bring together former classmates, sisters, teachers, counselors, co-workers, family and friends from schools that have closed or no longer have SSNDs present. Proceeds from these events benefit the School Sisters’ educational ministries and healthcare for the elderly sisters.
