Day of Peace Celebration 2014Click to view images School Sisters of Notre Dame hosted a Public Prayer for Peace on Friday, Sept. 19, at Notre Dame of Elm Grove. The Public Prayer for Peace was held in commemoration of the International Day of Peace, Sept. 21. Sister Rebecca Gabe, SSND, leads the group bringing origami peace cranes made by the students. Peace Pole Dedicated at Sancta Maria in RipaClick to view images Sisters and staff came together on June 5 to dedicate a Peace Pole on the Sancta Maria in Ripa campus in St. Louis. The Peace Pole Project allows people all over the world who have planted Peace Poles to share the spirit of peace. The four languages on the pole – Japanese, Spanish, English and German – unite us with our sisters, associates and friends. Bishop Donald Hying offered the prayers of blessing for Queen of Peace Chapel. Archbishop Jerome E. Listecki granted TYME OUT permission to establish an oratory under the title of Queen of Peace. The Blessed Sacrament will be reserved in a concameratio – Latin for vaulted or arched roof. The colorful chair, on display outside of the new Queen of Peace Chapel, is from the original TYME OUT Youth Center. The concameratio serves as a sacred place to keep the monstrance Queen of Peace is an intimate chapel where youth and adults can pray and worship in the presence of the Eucharist.

International Day of Peace Prayer Service in Elm GroveClick to view images International Day of Peace Prayer Service was celebrated on Sept. 19 by School Sisters of Notre Dame and the SSND community. Many of the prayer service participants created peace prayers that were linked together on paper chains. Prayers for peace were short or long, personal or broad-focused Students and teachers from St. Mary and Notre Dame Middle schools brought forward their respective peace prayer chain. Top of the Mind Walk at Sancta Maria in RipaClick to view images On Aug. 31, sisters, associates, staff, and friends in St. Louis took part in a walk to support the Alzheimer's Association. The temperature was in the 90s while the group walked over to Jefferson Barracks Park for a 1.5 mile course. Each person received a purple Alstroemeria flower during the walk. The walkers passed by a softball tournament sponsored by Notre Dame High School. Others walked inside on the first floor of Theresa Center and Caroline Center, marking a half mile. Brain teasers and games were available in the auditorium.
