The Institute of Notre Dame (IND) is seeking a full-time Assistant Head of School for Academics. The position is located at 901 Aisquith Street, Baltimore, Maryland, 21202. The starting date is July 1, 2018.
The Institute of Notre Dame (IND), located in the heart of Baltimore, offers a unique educational experience for high school girls. The Assistant Head of School for Academics of IND reports directly to the Head of School and serves as an active member of the school’s Administrative Team. The Assistant Head of School for Academics is responsible for the daily management of the school, all matters related to student learning, student discipline, parent communication of student progress, as well as supervision and professional development of the instructional staff. The Assistant Head of School for Academics ensures the overall curriculum of the school is focused within the context of the mission, vision and philosophy of IND.

- Master’s degree required
- Minimum of five successful years of teaching at the secondary level
- Minimum of three years of academic administration experience
- Strong commitment to participating in a diverse learning and social economic community
- Commitment to the learning and awareness of current trends for effective curriculum, instruction and assessment design for 21st century learning

- Facilitates day-to-day academic operations of the school that effect faculty, staff, students, and parents as well as coordination with other school administrators.
- Communicates directly with teachers regarding student, parental, and programmatic issues that arise throughout the school year and actively facilitates resolution of issues to improve student and programmatic outcomes.
- Communicates directly with students and parents regarding behavior, social, emotional, and academic issues and actively facilitates resolution of issues to improve student outcomes
- Facilitates regular school and individualized communication with parents.
- Administers development and implementation of curriculum, including all academic, special subjects, and social emotional learning programs for all students. This includes ensuring consistency, continuity, coordination, collaboration, and coherence of the curriculum across grade levels and managing a curricular budget.
- Oversees the review, development, and production of student progress reports, which are compiled at various times throughout the school year.
- Works with the Head of School to establish joint and distinct administrative priorities, particularly focused on academic programs, staffing, extracurricular and schoolwide activities, as well as parent involvement.
- Directly supervises all full- and part-time faculty. Collaborates with the Assistant Head of School for Operations, Office of School Counseling, the Technology Coordinator, the Business Office, Admissions, Development and PR and Communications Offices.
- Works alongside the Head of School to evaluate all teachers through direct and indirect classroom observations and participates in goal setting and review meetings.
- Coordinates with other school administrators on academic, non-academic, enrollment, facilities, and extra-curricular activities, needs, issues, and requirements.
- Develops, coordinates, and implements the annual school calendar, the school’s daily schedule, school duties assignments for all faculty and staff, division meetings, extracurricular activity schedules, and school-day special events.
- Writes weekly communications to faculty and staff and parents as it pertains to weekly assignments, events, and expectations.
- Oversees mentoring program for new faculty, through goal-setting, regular meetings, coaching, individualized professional development, and supporting their integration to a new school community.
